Know what to do.
Have your fire extinguisher in a easy accessible place and check them on a regular basis. Extinguishers should be looked at monthly, inspected by a licensed technician yearly as per the NFPA10 and the Alberta Fire Code.
Know what to choose.
ABC extinguishers are multi-purpose and designed to use on combustibles, flammable liquids and live electrical equipment. K class or wet chemical extinguishers are used in commercial kitchens. CO2 extinguishers are commonly used in places that have electrical equipment such as welding shops and server rooms.
